When I start the first level, I press N and the game crashes.
This is, as the mod page implies, an attempt to bring the mechanics of Counter-Strike over to Opposing Force, similar to an old mod called Counter-Life, which did the same thing for the base Half-Life game.
Unfortunately, unlike Counter-Life, this version is pretty glitchy - an early example of this is the training level, brought over directly from Counter-Strike. It doesn't display the correct text on-screen, refers to mechanics that aren't here (things like the radar and rewards for reaching hostages) and completely breaks on the hostage rescue section (he refuses to get into the truck, preventing progress beyond that point).
That's just for starters though, since the single-player campaign is even more broken, for a variety of reasons:
- Actual bugs (NPC models are broken/missing, weapon animations don't sync up to attacks, etc)
- Missing files (such as smoke_blk.spr) that cause the Steam version of HL to straight-up crash
- Weapons don't come with any ammo when picked up, forcing you to stick to the knife
- There's no Health/HEV Chargers for the first few maps (so you'll not be able to buy ammo/weapons)
- And, most crucially, though it doesn't show until you try to gain more, you lose ALL the money you've acquired whenever there's a loading screen (so changing maps or loading a save game). That's a pretty big problem when the entire mod revolves around saving money to buy stuff!
I love the idea for this (I really enjoyed Counter-Life and was hoping this was more of the same), but the actual execution is so poor it renders the game borderline unplayable and as such, I simply can't recommend it.
Wow, is this like Counter-Life, but for Opposing Force?
